Kuala Lumpur’s Spectacular Thean Hou Temple

Even though I was quite occupied during my two-day trip to Malaysia, I couldn’t resist visiting the beautiful Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur.

IMG_6451

Built between 1981 and 1987, this world famous temple draws hundreds of tourists everyday, thanks to its stunning architecture. It is a six tired temple with four levels and is dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu. Also known as the Temple of the Goddess of Heaven, it has elements of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism structures.

The amalgamation of contemporary architectural style and traditional designs made the temple stand out among other temples in Kuala Lumpur.

Outside the temple, one can see statutes of representations of the 12 animals of Chinese astrology. The temple also has a Chinese medicinal herbs garden and a tortoise pond. A popular wedding venue among KL’s Chinese community, the temple attracts worshipers and tourists alike everyday.

In short, your Kuala Lumpur itinerary must include this spectacular world famous temple.

How to reach: The temple is just three km away from Bangsar station. Take a LRT to the station and then you can hire a taxi to the temple. I used Grab app and reached this place within 10 minutes.

Maharashtra’s Impressive Elephanta Caves

My search for an attractive tourist destination in Mumbai ended when a friend of mine suggested me to visit Maharashtra’s famous Elephanta Caves – a UNESCO World Heritage site, which draws thousands of tourists everyday.

IMG_5797

IMG_5826

Surrounded by thick forest and Arabian Sea, the caves are divided in two parts – an array five caves and two Buddhist caves.

IMG_5796

IMG_5807
Perched on Elephanta Island, the collection of rock art is believed to be built during the mid-fifth to sixth centuries AD. According to Archaeological Survey Of India, a number of dynasties, including Chalukyas of Badami and Yadavas of Deogiri had their control over this majestic place.

IMG_5837

Among all the caves, Cave 1 turned out to be impressive. The main cave includes Andhakasuravada murti, Nataraja; Kalyanasundara murti and Gangadhara murti.
In my opinion, the Elephanta Caves is a must place to visit for those who admire ancient art and architectures.

IMG_5849

Exploring the entire place takes almost 1 and ½ hours. Elephanta Caves is just 10 kilometer away from the famous Gateway of India. The boat services for this place start at around 9am.

One Day In Kandy

IMG_3949

I should have extended my stay in Kandy. One day was not enough to explore this picturesque city, which is famous for its tea gardens and the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

IMG_3883

IMG_3887

There are many amazing places which I missed. But, I still got to meet some very interesting people, relish Kandy’s delicious food and visit its colorful market. I stayed in a very comfortable hostel and the street food was finger-lickin good.

https://deepakmagazine.com/2017/07/21/how-i-stayed-in-sri-lanka/

The major part of my one-day stay in the city was spent exploring Kandy’s Central Market, where one can find from fruit to wine. It was a bit crowded, but that’s not a problem if you are a Delhitie.

I visited the Temple of the Tooth Relic and soaked up the beauty of the Kandy Lake, which is also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk. This artificial lake is situated in the heart of the city.

In the end, a bar was needed to unwind after a hectic but very beautiful day. I approached a gentleman to find me a good place and he told me to follow him. After a five minute-walk, we were standing outside a restaurant-cum bar. The gentleman smiled at me and said: “Welcome to my bar.” “You own this,” I asked with surprise. “O yes,” he replied.

IMG_20170429_191425

I entered the bar, and the first thing I noticed was its rustic decoration. Very artistic and well-maintained. I hit the bar a little too early and so was the only guest.
I ordered a beer and few snacks, and my perfect evening came to a blissful end.

I left Kandy next morning.

Review: Sandisk Extreme PRO SDHC UHS-I Card 32 GB

IMG_5905

Erasing all doubts! SanDisk remains one of the pioneer firms in terms of memory storage solution.
Their constant innovation has made them one of the word’s reliable companies.

Sandisk Extreme PRO SDHC UHS-I Card 32 GB is one of the products that I would like to give a special mention here. This product offers 95MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds.

IMG_5897
Some of highlights of the card, which is build for extreme conditions, are:

UHS Speed Class (U3) and Video Spped Class 30 (V30)for 4K UHD video

Available capacities: Up to 512GB

Shock-proof, temperature-proof, waterproof and X-ray proof.

UHS Video Speed Class 30 (V30), sustained video capture rate of 30MB/s and UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) designates a performance option – designed to support real-time video recording with UHS enabled host devices.

Lifetime warranty

IMG_5901

The card is pretty useful for those who use camera’s burst-mode frequently.  The card is managed by the Power Core™ Controller. I used this card on my Canon 750D and it worked well. Without much worry, one can shoot for longer period of time, thanks to the card’s storage capacity.

IMG_5901

I will definitely recommend this product for above mentioned reasons.

Umngot River: Pure & Pristine

IMG_5505

After seeing the beautiful images of Umngot river over a thousand times on Social media, I finally made up my mind to see it in real. I hired a cab from Shillong and headed to Umngot river, which lies at Dawki, a small town situated near the Indo-Bangladesh border. It took me nearly two hours to reach the place.

IMG_5565

It is probably one of the cleanest rivers in our country. The emerald green water, so pure and pristine. Surrounded by thick forest, the beauty of the river is unparalleled. It is a must visit place for any traveler. My driver told me that the river becomes crystal clear during the December-January period. Apart from enjoying the incredible view, one can take a boat ride, and do camping next to the lake. Local tour operators provide camping equipment.

How to reach this place: This pristine river is located 95km away from Shillong. There are many options to visit this place. One can take a bus from the capital city to Dawaki. Megahlaya tourism department also conducts tours to this place. Their office is situated in the famous Police Bazar. I took a cab as I had very limited time and wanted to see many things.
