Hua Hin’s Splendid Klai Kangwon Palace

IMG_8846

Klai Kangwon Palace is one of Hua Hin’s popular tourists spots. It used to be a primary summer royal residence of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) of Thailand.

in 1926, the construction of the massive compound was commissioned by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII). Finally it was completed in 1933. Surrounded by sea, Klai Kangwon has become a major attraction for foreign tourists.

The palace has many colorful and buildings with peaceful and picturesque surroundings. After negotiating with the driver, I hired a tuk tuk from downtown of Hua Hin and reached the place in around 40 minutes. As it was rainy season, I was completely drenched but it was full of fun and excitement.

Surrounded by sea, one can find peace and serenity in this palace. If you are in Hua Hin, do not forget to include this in your itinerary.

Interesting Places Of Kanchanaburi

My visit to Kanchanaburi was short yet memorable. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai, Kanchanaburi has many interesting places to explore only if you have time. As I ran short of time, I could visit only two places of interest (apart from Erawan National Park) – the Bridge over the River Kwai and Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.

The Bridge over the River Kwai is hugely popular among visitors. The Bridge over the Mae Klong was part of the Death Railway. It was built by the Japanese during WWII with the help of prisoners and slave laborers. Japan built the Burma Railway (also known as the Death Railway) to support its forces in the Burma campaign of WWII.

Kanchanaburi War Cemetery was another place which I explored on foot as it was close to my guesthouse. It was dedicated to victims of Japanese imprisonment while building the Burma Railway. It was designed by Colin St Clair Oakes. More than 6,000 prisoners of war are buried there. The place makes you realize the dark side of history.

But don’t forget to visit Kanchanburi’s most tourist spot Erawan National Park

Why Wat Huay Mongkol Temple Should Be On Your Travel Radar

Temples are enchanting. Be it Indian or Thai. Every temple is unique in its own way. Before setting off my journey to Hua Hin, I had made up my mind to make a trip to Wat Huay Mongkol temple, which is home to the world’s largest statue of Luang Phor Thuad.

I knew this trip won’t disappoint me. And I was right.

On the day of my visit, it poured heavily. Nevertheless, I enjoyed completely.

The massive statue is part of a big complex, located some 15 kilometers west of Hua Hin.

It attracts a large number of tourists, including Thai people everyday.

People visit this complex to pay respect to Luang Phor Thuad and seek his blessings for health, fortune, happiness and good luck.

The complex has a lake, pavilions and numerous small restaurants.

If you are looking for a place to spend some time in peace and solitude, please visit this place.

I will recommend you to explore the place on weekdays as it can get very crowded on weekends.

How did I reach this place: I queried a lot from local people and found out that there was no direct transport connection between Hua Hin to this complex. I used a shared tuktuk which dropped me on the national highway 3218. From there one kind woman agreed to take me to the complex. Otherwise it would have been very difficult for me to reach this place. Without a personal vehicle, reaching the place can be challenging. I had managed to reach the place but how to return was always there at the back of my mind. Heavy downpour added to my woes. A visitor came to my rescue and she volunteered to drop me at Hua Hin. Miracles do happen.

When Bangkok Surprises You

With a hot and humid weather, I had no option but to search for a place full of greenery. During my online search, Google suggested me a nearby place called Santichaiprakan Park, which is close to Khao San road.

The park impressed me after an overview and I decided to visit the place.

I approached a tul tuk guy and paid him 40 bhat.

Located on Phra Athit road, Santichaiprakan Park is full of greenery, though not big in terms of area.

One can fully explore the park in just 20 minutes.

The park, situated in the eastern part of Chao Phraya River, offers some scintillating views of the sunset.

And near the vicinity of the park one can find beautiful Phra Sumen Fort, which was constructed during the end of the 18th century to protect the city from foreign invasions.

While returning from this place I stumbled upon a cute coffee shop and had some nice warm coffee.
